Metalsmiths crafted tin men long before the character in The Wizard of Oz made the figures famous. Here, sheet metal workers from Union Local 17 wear costumes during the 2007 Saint Patrick's Day Parade in Boston. Many members of Local 17 are of Irish descent. By marching in the parade, they celebrate both ethnic and union pride. It also serves as a way to recruit apprentices to the trade.
