This fan features three poems by Du Fu, a prominent Tang Dynasty Chinese poet. Qianshen Bai notes, "The art [of calligraphy] really demands someone be in a very peaceful state of mind. Second, you try to reach a state in which your mind and your hand are in a very harmonious relationship. I think it is similar to Michael Jordan. . . . [The] ball becomes part of his body. . . . His muscle, his breath, his movement - how fast; all became an integrated oneness."
